If you are like most of us, stress is a pretty common occurrence in your life. Life can be overwhelming some days. And sometimes you need some quick strategies to regroup, re-energize, and maybe refocus your energy toward something more positive. How would you like to relieve stress quickly with Pilates?
You don’t have to be in the Pilates studio to find that relaxed, energized feeling that you get during one of your Pilates sessions. One of the great things about your Pilates practice is that you can take away some simple ideas and concepts, and apply them to your everyday life to feel a big difference.
Here’s a quick list of our favorite Pilates ways to relieve stress!
1. Breathe. You’ve heard it before I’m sure. Just taking a moment to yourself, and taking a few deep mindful breaths can really change how your body is feeling. You can do this anywhere without anyone else even realizing what you are doing! Simply take 5 conscious breaths where all you are doing is breathing and noticing how the breath feels in your body. It’s as simple as that!
2. Move. Take a movement break from whatever you are doing. Do your favorite stretch or dance. Sway your arms, do your hundreds or whatever you are comfortable doing. Our bodies are designed to move, and when we take a moment to listen to our bodies and do some gentle movements that feel good, it changes our perspective and can really boost your mood!
3. Concentrate on someone else. This could be petting your cat or listening to your child tell a story. It could be as simple as just saying hi to a stranger and asking about their day. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in ourselves and whatever we have going on that we forget about everyone else we share the world with. Connecting with others puts our lives into perspective, and allows us to make a difference in others’ lives.
Stress can affect us in many ways, but Pilates can help to relieve that stress. Choose one, or more, of these simple ways to help alleviate all that pressure you’re feeling. Better yet, email me for more information, or join us for a Pilates session!
