This workshop is interactive and you will be moving. Please come prepared in comfortable clothes, grip socks and pencil for note taking.
All “Master” Classes are 1 PMA CEC and listed as “Thematic Class with Shari Berkowitz”.

A Pilates class with Shari is a true education. You’ll find your body and brain sweating with both a strong workout and a new education: physical and intellectual. Now…you get NPCP CECs for these classes. We’ll work hard for 45 minutes on a particular theme. Then we’ll take time to discuss. Workout first. Embody and Experience. Discussion next.
Intellectual understanding for the teacher.
It’s a mini-workshop…a maxi-hour! – – – Clients and Teachers are welcome.
This is for all!
Whether in a group class or in a private session, we must work with a theme…an intrinsic action that we’re working to teach our clients to incorporate into each exercise in Pilates…and life. In thematic class, Shari picks one intrinsic action to add to our constant deep low abdominals and active lower back muscles to weave a physical and intellectual understanding of the value of the action. What will this class’ theme be?
Exactly what you need for the day! Join in and learn while you do then discuss how to make a class extremely effective!

Why Can’t I Do That Exercise? (And I can’t get my clients to do it, either!)

You know that exercise you can’t seem to do even though you’ve been doing Pilates for a long time? What about the one your client’s can’t seem to accomplish and you can’t figure out why they can’t get it? Every exercise is accomplishable by everyone. It’s a matter of letting the exercise expose the weaknesses and imbalances and then strengthen and balance…right? Yes…but there’s more. We have to actually know what the issue is. When your legs fly up in The Roll Up, it must mean you need more abdominal strength, right? Actually, no. When your hip flexors hurt in your Teaser it must mean you need to turn off your hip flexors, right? Again, no. What myths are we working with that are still hindering our exercises…which hinders our ability to develop strength and balance of soft tissue tension and ultimately help us achieve our physical and professional goals?

Teaching Tower Classes: How to Effectively Create and Teach

Apparatus Classes are a big part of our growing Pilates world. You teach them, but you were never trained for it. In your tower classes, there are people of all levels, many who have never seen or been on the tower in your class and some who are pretty advanced, as well. How do you create a class that takes care of them all? Let’s take the time to learn how to create really safe, strong and challenging classes on the tower. There are special guidelines and progressions you can follow and great ways to make a fantastic class for everyone…including you as the teacher!
